On Sunday, the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) 2012 opened its doors to more than 5,000 journalists from 55 countries this morning, who witnessed the unveiling of 27 vehicles never before seen. And that’s just the start – NAIAS show organizers said they expect approximately 40 total new-vehicle introductions before the show opens to the public. It runs January 9-22 – Press Preview 9th and 10th, Industry Preview 11th and 12th, charity gala on the 13th, then public showing 14th-22nd.
Sunday night Fred Beans visited the show and was blown away by the new Ford Fusion for 2013 and new Lincoln MKZ. “Without a question of a doubt, I have never seen a car like the new Ford Fusion and the new Lincoln. I visited all the other displays and there was nothing like it. These two cars set a new standard. There is no question in my mind Ford will be the envy all other manufacturers.”
“Drop-dead gorgeous” says Sean K. Masson, Ford Philadelphia Region rep.
And with more detail on the Fusion comes this from Derrick M. Kuzack, group vice president, Ford Global Product Development:
“Today is a major milestone in our One Ford global product plan, as we introduce the all-new 2013 Ford Fusion at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.
“The all-new Fusion is groundbreaking. It’s a new face of Ford, introducing the new global design language that will influence our product family moving forward. It’s sculpted and sleek, signaling our commitment to delivering leading fuel efficiency. It all comes together to communicate an aspirational visual quality that upgrades the vehicle.
“Fusion gives customers the ‘power of choice,’ with five powertrains, including two EcoBoost engines. And it’s the first to offer the full-range of EcoBoost, hybrid and plug-in hybrid choices to our customers – each one with leading fuel efficiency.
“And, of course, it’s going to be great to drive – building on the strengths of our global CD platform. And impressively quiet, with great interiors that make Fusion a welcome second home on wheels to customers.
“Overall, with the all-new 2013 Fusion, customers are getting a mid-size vehicle that delivers more than they would have ever expected in design, fuel economy, technology, comfort and convenience, and quietness. Everything that’s important to them.”
