Eighty-five employees from Doylestown and Limerick locations of the Doylestown-based Fred Beans Family of Dealerships were out in force on a Wednesday this spring, taking advantage of the drop back to seasonal temperatures by walking during their lunch breaks.

Sponsored by the Fred Beans Healthy Living Committee, the groups walked in the neighborhoods around their businesses—joining thousands around the country who heeded the invitation of Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to get out and walk for the 2009 National Walk@Lunch Day®.

Independence Blue Cross provided 100 t-shirts and 35 pedometers for the Fred Beans walkers, although the goal was not gimmicks and gifts, but to incorporate physical activity into the work day and take positive steps toward a healthier lifestyle.

“The weather cooled off just enough to make the walk pleasant,” says Linda Bell of the Beans Healthy Living Committee. “We hope it showed everyone just how easy it is to take a brisk walk at lunchtime with a few coworkers.”

National Walk@Lunch Day is an extension of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association’s WalkingWorks® program.
