If your bumper is like so many of ours, then it has some dings and dents in them, after all, it’s what they’re built to withstand. And while it’s true, the bumper does protect the rest of the vehicle against more serious damage, your bumper needs to be taken care of too. So if you have a banged up bumper and are wondering if you should take it to the shop, we’re here to tell you why it’s a good idea to get it fixed.
- Like we said earlier, the bumper is the first line of defense in front end accidents and fender benders. When this happens, the bumper takes on the impact and can spare the rest of the vehicle. However, when you don’t get the bumper fixed, it can lose some of it’s integrity and when you need it to stay strong for the next bang up, it could not hold up and cause more body damage to the rest of the car.
- And while the bumper may protect the rest of your car, if you’ve been in an accident, then you should take your car to the shop even if it looks like the bumper took the brunt of the damage. The bumper could be hiding more damage behind it, so you always want to have a trusted autobody shop take a look.
- If you have a bumper that appears to have taken a lot of prior damage and then get into a more serious accident, you could run into insurance claim issues. Your insurance adjuster could claim that some of the damage was because the bumper wasn’t in good working order, leading to a bigger headache for you.
- If you have a bumper with a lot of scratches, dents and dings, then the value of your car when you go to sell will take a hit. So get it fixed, avoid the rust and recoup as much as you can when you go to trade in or sell that vehicle.
