The crowds went wild…over the food, the awards ceremony and hanging out with the team mates with whom they’d just shared an exciting football season. That was the scene at the Fred Beans Buick GMC showroom in November when Coventry Wildcats football players and cheerleaders gathered with their coaches and families to celebrate the season just completed.
When the Wildcats went looking for a banquet venue, Chris Mancini, general manager of the Fred Beans dealership (and parent of Austin, 12, a Wildcat player) suggested the showroom, which was just right for the crowd of more than 200.
The Wildcats are part of Coventry Youth Football Organization that draws mostly from the Owen J. Roberts School District. The first-year spin-off league fields Midget (age 11-12), Mite (9-10) and Knee-High (7-8) teams—based on age, not weight, and mandatory playing time for all—and a cheering squad.
