Palisades Cybersonics host first ‘Drive Smart’ fundraiser

Sign up here with Bella or Isabella, take a test drive, earn the Cybersonics Team a $20 donation, take home a Flat Freddy and Lincoln thumb drive!

It was a beautiful afternoon and crisp, clear evening for the Cybersonics Technology Team‘s first Lincoln Drive Smart for Your School fundraiser on Friday, October 12, at Palisades High School in Kintnersville.

And the community really came out to support the “geek squad” that makes up this terrifically successful robotics team. Unofficial tally: 117 test drives.

This number should translate into a $2,340 donation from the Lincoln division of Ford Motor Company, which has promised to give the school program $20 for every qualified test drive taken at the Friday event. Congratulations!

While the students and adult advisors were hoping to come closer to the 300 test-drive, $6,000 limit imposed by Ford Lincoln, all involved are very pleased by the outcome this first time around. They are already making plans to host another Drive Smart event to coincide with the community’s 5K run in May.

Cybersonics Team 103 thanks partner Fred Beans Ford Lincoln in Doylestown for making the test-drive event possible. The fundraiser is a no-pressure, no-sales program that is wholly a community-building event, and Fred Beans sales and community relations staff were delighted to participate with Palisades and the Cybersonics kids.

One of the evening’s special visitors was Dr. Francis V. Barnes, the district’s beloved superintendent who retired last year (1998-2011). He drove up on Friday from his home in Maryland so he could take a test-drive in a Lincoln to support the Cybersonics team and to watch at least part of the homecoming football game.

Test-drivers were arriving from 2:15pm -- before we were scheduled to begin! -- until after 8:30pm closing.

The Drive Smart (Lincoln) and Drive 4 UR School (Ford) fundraising events are a great way to raise money for school programs. Central Bucks West High School Football Parents Club, along with the cheerleaders and band, has conducted the Drive 4 UR School event for four years — and recently surpassed the 300 goal for the second year in a row. CB West will be celebrating the outcome at halftime of the homecoming football game this Friday night at War Memorial Field in Doylestown.

Lincoln provided a large package of marketing and event materials, including the template for this spray-chalk roadway insignia.

Great job, Palisades. See you in 2013 for a rematch!
