This is the time of year when the weather and shorter days bring families together inside, often around the dinner table. My daughters will tell you that I would often quiz them at dinner, asking them about their goals, objectives and accomplishments. That might not have been something they appreciated at the time. But I think it helped teach them to assess how they approached their school work and their futures, and maybe built their will to succeed.
When our families get together over the holidays, we will look back through the months just past and be grateful for meaningful and rewarding work, the love of family and friends, the ability to help others who are less fortunate. We will look forward with hope that the troops come home safely, the economy continues its upswing and we are all together again in 12 months’ time.
And we will look around at the smiling, healthy faces of our children and grandchildren and count our blessings. I wish you all a safe, healthy and joyous holiday season with those you love.
