What Is a Vehicle State Inspection?
Many states throughout the United States require periodic vehicle inspections to ensure that each vehicle meets the safety and/or emissions standards of that state. The requirements of these state inspections vary from state to state and also by what kind of vehicle that you have.
Pennsylvania State Inspection Criteria
In the state of Pennsylvania, passenger vehicles and light-duty pickup trucks need to be inspected at a certified service center once a year. Every year when your vehicle undergoes a state inspection, the technicians will look at the following systems and parts to make sure they’re running properly:
All parts of the brake system
Tires and wheels
Lighting systems and parts
Glass glazing on windows
Interior and exterior mirrors
Windshield washer system
The speedometer and adjacent equipment
The odometer and adjacent equipment
The exhaust system
Horns and warning devices
During the state inspection, the technician will thoroughly look at each part and test its functionality. If one or more parts do not meet the standards of Pennsylvania, you’ll be required to repair or replace the part in order to obtain a safety inspection sticker.
This safety inspection sticker shows that your vehicle is up-to-date with its inspections until the date noted on the sticker.
