When Fred Beans saw the huge effort the Central Bucks West Football Parents Club had put into its second Drive One 4 UR School event last August, he was really impressed.
After all, a handful of organizers, led by club fundraiser chair Tammy Sergeyev, had managed to increase the number of qualifying test drives to 233 from the previous year’s 90. At $20 per test drive, that earned the West football program $4,660 in donations from Ford Motor Company.
He was also impressed by the enthusiasm of the high school students and adults who were involved in registering drivers and keeping them entertained while they waited their turn to drive a brand-new Ford or Lincoln, provided by the Beans Doylestown dealership.
So Fred made sure to get involved early for this year’s Drive One 4 UR School event and to give the parents’ group a little extra help to reach its goal of 300 qualified test drives, or $6,000, which is Ford’s cap on donations for the fundraising event.
And then he thought, oh what the heck, and made his own promise: for every qualified test drive over Ford’s 300 cap, he will donate $20, up to $2,000. That means the CB West Football Parents Club has had to revise its goal to 400 test drives.
The parents club, cheerleaders and band are working like crazy to bring those 400 drivers to the high school – McFarlane Lane, behind the school and next to the football field – between 11am and 7pm this Friday, August 26. They’ve enlisted some help from the Central Bucks Family YMCA, the school’s neighbor across Memorial Drive. Here’s what they have lined up for activities and special guests:
11:00 Jungle Joe Fortunato from the Bucks County Zoo (probably with a furry, feathered or scaly friend)
3-4:00 CB West Band
4:00 Photo shoot with local dignitaries, school officials and business leaders, including coach Brian Hensel, CBW principal Kevin Munnelly, Rep. Kathy Watson, CBFY CEO Zane Moore, Doylestown Borough Police Chief Donnelly, Fred Beans, Sue Ponente and Regina Poeske (senior co-presidents of CBW Football Parents Club), Neil Delson (CBW Band director) and cheerleader coach Lynn “Rusty” Russell

4:30-5:30 “Zumba Party” on the field adjacent to McFarlane Lane: free, drop-in instruction and fun for all ages, presented by CBFYMCA staff
