How about fuel economy? This car may boast an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 43 MPG city and 41 MPG highway. It does this with a 2.0L Atkinson-Cycle I-4 hybrid engine that generates 188 horsepower with the combined engine and electric motor. The engine also delivers 129 lb-ft of torque.

This powertrain is completed with an efficient electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (E-CVT). It also uses regenerative braking to store kinetic braking energy for future use to ensure nothing goes to waste. To preserve even more fuel, go ahead and switch into the available ECO mode.

2. Kia Niro: Most Cargo Space

SUV enthusiasts will probably like the Kia Niro. This crossover can achieve an EPA-estimated maximum fuel economy of 52 MPG city and 49 MPG highway.1 It has a 1.6L I-4 Full Parallel Hybrid System that produces 139 combined horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.

This hybrid car keeps your shift schedules optimized with a dual clutch 6-speed automatic transmission. If you prefer a sportier feel to your drives around town, you can switch your transmission into Sport mode and enjoy smoother accelerations and tighter steering.

As an SUV, you can expect this vehicle to offer plenty of interior space. You and your four passengers can get comfortable in the 101 cubic feet of passenger volume, while bringing along 22 cubic feet of cargo. Fold down the rear seat and you can fit a total of 54.4 cubic feet of cargo.

3. Toyota Prius: Highest Fuel Economy

This hatchback is more compact than the other models on this list and is good for city drivers who need to maneuver around tight streets. Still, as a hatchback, it provides plenty of trunk space—24.6 cubic feet to be exact.

This car operates with a 1.8L I-4 engine that delivers a combined 95 horsepower and generates 105 lb-ft of torque. It can also get you up-to 58 MPG city and 53 MPG highway, according to EPA fuel economy estimates.2 To keep its efficiency high, it’s paired with an E-CVT that provides nearly infinite shifts between the highest and lowest points.

You have selectable drive modes available, as well. Choose EV mode to operate fully on electric power. Switch into POWER mode for a more dynamic driving experience or select ECO mode to optimize your hybrid fuel economy.
