Warming kids, one coat at a time

The Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation is once again warming up the coming season for needy youngsters in the Philadelphia 5-county region by distributing more than 37,000 brand new coats through the 2014 Driving Away the Cold program.

Last week Fred Beans Volkswagen of Devon’s Richard Sharp and other automotive personnel from dealerships in the Chester County area helped unload nearly 1,400 coats at the Phoenixville Branch of the Philadelphia YMCA. And this morning personnel from Fred Beans dealerships in Doylestown joined other local dealerships in unloading a tractor trailer full of cartons of winter coats at the Central Bucks Family YMCA.

The YMCAs see that these garments reach underprivileged children in time for the cold weather that has held off but is coming down the pike in the days ahead as October draws to a close. Across the five counties, the initiative has partnered with schools, places of worship, YMCAs and other groups to put the coats into the hands of those families who most need them.

Dealerships across the region have donated one coat for every new car sold in a designated month this fall. Since the program’s inception in 2008, the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation Driving Away the Cold campaign has warmed the bodies and souls of more than 178,000 children.
