Abington, Pa. – More than 60 Scouts from Cub Scout Packs in the Washington District recently competed in the Pinewood Derby held at Fred Beans Honda of Abington. A new location for this year’s race, the Fred Beans dealership provided a fitting setting for the miniature car race and additional STEM activities for young racers and their families to explore the scientific principles of automotive engineering.
As the host, Fred Beans Automotive Group also provided trophies and t-shirts for participants. In addition to the Scouts competing in the Grand Prix races, a secondary Pro-class event invited additional racers, including Pack leaders, to compete. Ron Schmidt, Washington District Pinewood Derby chair, noted that the different events opened the door for the McCafferty family to take home three awards, with mother, father and son each placing.
