Fred Beans Automotive Group is now a seven-time recipient of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Best Places to Work award. This year, Fred Beans placed third among the select group of “extra-large” organizations (those with 300+ employees) honored.

The Doylestown-based automotive group has earned the Best Places to Work award every year since initially entering the contest in 2019. However, founder Fred Beans has long understood that the company would only ever be as good as its people. His focus on the Fred Beans team has helped him steadily grow the Fred Beans Automotive Group, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary.

“My dad has always known how important it is to hire well and retain team members who share his values,” said Beth Beans Gilbert, vice president of Fred Beans Automotive Group. “He inspired our company culture that prioritizes both professional and personal development.”

Opportunities exist for Fred Beans team members to participate in Dale Carnegie leadership training and the NADA Dealer Academy, in addition to undergraduate and graduate education programs. In partnership with Bucks County Community College, the automotive group also offers a customized leadership training program, the Fred Beans Leadership Academy, for employees who have potential to move into a leadership role or have recently taken on a new role.

As vice president, Beans Gilbert has helped adjust benefits to better support the varying needs of the Fred Beans team, including generous parental leave, paid time off to volunteer and a robust Healthy Living Program. Led by a designated wellness coordinator, the Healthy Living Program includes a range of online and in-person resources, company-wide fitness challenges, and individualized fitness and nutrition consultations to support employees based on their comfort levels and goals.

“We collectively strive to make it Better at Beans, and we individually strive for personal growth and continued excellence, so as a company, we look for ways to help employees bring their best selves to work each day,” said Beans Gilbert. “This Best Places to Work award helps validate our efforts and motivates us to continue listening to and responding to our exceptional team members.”

Employee feedback solely determines Best Places to Work honorees. Each year, the Philadelphia Business Journal and Quantum Workplace, a provider of employee engagement software, partner to compile the list based on findings from an employee survey distributed to contest participants. Questions cover a range of topics including work environment, support of personal growth, benefits and trust in senior leadership.
